Why Should You Call in the Professionals?

simply green leaf header

lawn care professionals

Simply Green Lawn Care, located around Atlanta, GA, has been serving the area since 2004. We are passionate about lawn care and making our customer’s dream landscapes come true. Sometimes people will opt for a more do-it-yourself approach to their lawns over hiring the professionals. So, why give us a call? There are many reasons to call in for reinforcements when it comes to your yard!

  • Time – From week to week it seems that we need to be in a hundred places at once. From work to the grocery store and exercising to running errands. If you have a family and kids, that is surely amplified many times over. The point is that often times squeezing yard work into that already mile-long list of things to do can be a challenge.
  • Knowledge – Quality lawn care is much more than mowing the lawn every so often, it requires attention to detail and often a fairly extensive knowledge of landscaping. Some turfs require a different type of care than others, and knowing seasonal issues and how to address them is imperative. It is much more intricate than someone might think.
  • Less Risk, More Care – Without the background our technicians have, an average homeowner can run into a slew of issues they may not be prepared to take on. From treating turf diseases to weed control, one misstep can lead to disaster.
  • Just Enjoy It – With all of these things taken care of for you, all that’s left to do is enjoy it! Sit back, enjoy your vibrant and rich turf and let us worry about the rest!

4 Fun Backyard Games for this Fall

We don’t know about you, but this cooler weather has us wanting to be outside around the clock! The days of the hot beating sun seem to be behind us, with nice cool fall weather ahead. With this anticipated weather upon us, more people will be spending time outdoors. Simply Green Lawn Care, located near Atlanta, GA, is just as excited as you are, so we have compiled a list of great outdoors games everyone can enjoy this fall season!

  • Cornhole – This is a really fun and easy game to play with family and friends. Opposing teams take turns tossing bean bags at a tilted wooden platform, and the object of the game is to get as many bean bags through the hole as possible. Points are also scored by getting the bags to stay on the platform.
  • Horseshoes – Most of us have seen a game or two of horseshoes played. Players toss horseshoes at metal stakes in the ground, and whoever hits a ringer or tosses their horseshoe close enough to the stake receives points.
  • Frisbee Golf – This is another really fun one to play with everyone. All you need are some frisbees and something large enough to catch the frisbee in like a basket. Frisbee golf is played like regular golf in that wherever your frisbee lands is where you throw from. The less number of attempts to get it in the better!
  • Throw the Football – It’s football season! A great way to get outside in between games is to simply toss a football around. Keep the vibe going all day!

Start Fall With a Plan

Fall Leaves

We have said this a lot recently, but it is HOT outside. Fall is nothing more than a wish for most of us right now, but while we have our AC’s on full blast we need to start thinking about preparing for the fall weather. It’s getting later and later in the summer and that makes it the perfect time for planning. At Simply Green Lawn Care, located in Lilburn, Ga, we want everyone’s fall lawns to look as great as it possibly with these tips.

  • Aerate Your Fescue Lawn – Aerating now will make it so that water, and fertilizer can easily reach the grass’s roots. Taking action now will make your future Fescue lawn healthier and more vibrant.
  • Reseeding – The hot Georgia summers really take its tole on our turf. This means that Fescue lawns require reseeding.
  • Rake the Leaves – This is one of the most important aspects of keeping your turf healthy in the cooler months. Your lawn need nutrients from the sun to thrive, but if it is covered by a dense layer of wet leaves it is more susceptible to turf diseases.
  • Weed Control – Now is the time to apply a winter pre-emergence to your warm season turf (Bermuda and Zoysia) to help prevent Poa-annua and other winter weeds. Get on top of the weeds now, and it wont prove to be as big of an issue later.
    • Do not apply weed control for the next 2 months to Fescue . Most herbicides will damage new fescue seedlings. Wait until late November or early December to use a selective herbicide to target treat any broadleaf weeds you may have in your lawn. Be sure to read and follow the label!
  • Great Time to Fertilize – When you fertilize in the fall, you fertilize for the future. This is a great time of year to prepare your yard for a successful growing season.
    • For Fescue, apply a starter fertilizer and correct low soil pH.
    • For warm season turf (Bermuda and Zoysia), help your lawn prepare for the colder months by applying a potassium fertilizer for the roots .
  • Mow Low -Before you re-seed mow your Fescue lawn short about 2”, remove clippings and leaves. This will help ensure your seed reaches the soil. Once you reseed do not mow your Fescue lawn for 2-3 weeks. Allow the seedling to develop roots so when you do mow your mower does not pull up the need seedlings. Best mowing height is 3” to 3.5” for the winter.
    • Allow your warm season lawn (Bermuda and Zoysia) to go dormant with a mowing height of 1.5” to  2” .

Safe Tick Removal

simply green leaf header

tick

It is that time of year again. Tick season is upon us, and the warmer it gets, the more of an issue it seems to become. We are seeing more ticks in the field by the day. As most of you are aware, these pests can carry diseases that it can then pass off on to you or your pets if removed improperly. Simply Green Lawn Care, in the Atlanta Georgia area, wants you to be prepared this season with some knowledge on effective tick removal.

Tick Removal and Care, Step by Step

According to WebMD, the most efficient method of tick removal is by using a pair of fine-tipped tweezers (do not grab tick with your bare hands).

  1. First, grab the tick as close to its mouth (the part that is stuck in your skin) as you can. The body of the tick will be above your skin.
  2. Do not grab the tick around its swollen belly. You could push infected fluid from the tick into your body if you squeeze it.
  3. Gently pull the tick straight out until its mouth lets go of your skin. Do not twist the tick. This may break off the tick’s body and leave the head in your skin.
  4. Put the tick in a dry jar or ziplock bag and save it in the freezer for later identification if needed.
  5. After the tick has been removed, wash the area of the tick bite with a lot of warm water and soap. A mild dishwashing soap, such as Ivory, works well. Be sure to wash your hands well with soap and water also.
